ABOUT BUILDING ACOUSTIC SOLUTIONS
Building Acoustic Solutions (BAS) is an independent acoustic engineering consultancy working across Australia, with a focus on NSW and the ACT. We provide acoustic assessment, design, construction support and certification for builders, developers, design teams and government clients, on projects of every scale.
BAS was founded in 2026 by Director and Principal Consultant Tom Aubusson, who has practised in acoustics since 2007 and previously held Director and Principal roles at two of Sydney’s leading acoustic consultancies. Our experience includes leading the acoustics on State Significant Developments, major arts, entertainment and sporting venues, hospitals, universities and specialist acoustic research laboratories, from concept design and approvals through construction to final testing and certification.
What we do
Acoustic engineering across the whole project, from first assessment to final sign-off.
Assessment and approvals
Noise and vibration impact assessments for development applications, State Significant Developments and environmental impact statements. Assessments cover road, rail, aircraft and helicopter noise, industrial and operational noise, and environmental noise modelling, prepared to council, EPA and planning requirements.
Acoustic design
Sound insulation for walls, floors, ceilings and façades to the NCC and project brief, room acoustics, speech privacy and acoustic treatments, including theatres, studios and other critical spaces. Coordinated with the architect and engineers from concept through documentation, using practical constructions that meet the target without over-specifying.
Building services noise and vibration
Acoustic design of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical services: plant selection and location, duct attenuation, rain and hydraulic noise, vibration isolation and structure-borne noise. Includes generator, chiller and cooling plant for data centres and industrial sites.
Construction support
Support for builders through delivery: tender and shop drawing reviews, value engineering and alternative products, site inspections, and construction noise and vibration management plans and monitoring.
Testing, certification and compliance
Field testing of airborne and impact sound insulation, mechanical services noise and reverberation. Compliance reports and certificates for certifiers, occupation certificates and planning conditions.
Expert witness and peer review
Independent expert evidence for the Land and Environment Court and other tribunals, peer review of acoustic reports, and advice on noise complaints and disputes for owners, strata and councils.
